The third UK Bible Conference took place from 19th through 23rd August at Ardingly College, a boarding school located in the English countryside about a 50-minute drive South of London. The UK fellowship (no longer the London fellowship, or even the England fellowship, since it is made up of brothers and sisters from the length and breadth of the nation, including Scotland and Ireland) has been in existence for over 25 years, but it is relatively young in terms of the respective ages of individuals. With youth, however, there usually comes enthusiasm, and this was definitely evident at the meeting this year, so much so that I felt that this was the year when the UK moim came of age. Three evangelists were invited from Korea to help guide and offer advice to the predominantly young fellowship. Tomo Keller (originally from Austria, but now participating in the London fellowship) was MC, and also helped lead the hymn singing with his violin accompaniment. A young brother who is now studying singing in Berlin, came to lead the singing. The musical ensemble was completed by a young sister on the piano, and when babysitters were available, a young mother of four on the cello.Even though only a very few British people had been invited, the aim was to make our visitors feel as much at home as possible. For this reason, all the hymns were sung in English, and the only Korean spoken at the front of the hall was the sermon, which was translated simultaneously. For two mornings, the main speaker even spoke in English: Dr. Inae Lee from Germany spoke about health. Everyone was asked to speak English whenever there was anyone present who didn't understand Korean, and everyone did their best to abide by this rule. All the meals were organic, of course, and enjoyed in the old school refectory, with its high ceilings and chandeliers reminiscent of the Harry Potter movies. They were all-English menus as well. Perhaps there were complaints in the minds of some of the brothers or sisters due to the absence of kimchi, but if there were such complaints, they were not expressed on any faces or in any conversations. This year, for the first time, there were late night meetings held after all the guests had left. These were held in Korean with on-the-spot simultaneous or consecutive translations. What a shame we had not held such meetings before. This was the time when we could really open up, get to know each other and bond together as a group. Before the conference, the UK fellowship did some research into saved evangelists of the past and prepared a display of photos and testimonies of such famous people as John Wesley, George Whitefield, and Charles Spurgeon. Yes, everyone did everything
