Nelly Friedensburg and Celine Lee | Germany
In April 2014 we had the opportunity to travel to Ghana for two weeks. It was the first time for both of us to visit a country in Africa and we didn’t know much about the country or the people before going on this trip. After going through the visa application process, yellow fever vaccination, prophylactic malaria medication and luggage filled with disinfectant agents, sun block and mosquito repellant we all of a sudden found ourselves sitting in the plane to Ghana, realizing that this was really happening. We remember both of us being very excited and wondering how this trip would turn out. Would we be of any help for the brothers and sisters there? Having these kinds of thoughts in our minds we hoped that God would be able to use us to do His work.Together with the support of the brothers and sisters from all over the world a number of people of Ghana had been saved through a series of Bible seminars in the cities Temah, Sunyani and Accra. We had heard their stories from those who had been there, had heard about the Bible seminars and even the testimonies of some of the newly saved brethren. But even so it was still difficult to imagine for us what the situation there was really like and Africa seemed like a very far away place. The reason why we did finally go to Ghana was because Nelly was planning to go to Korea for a longer period of time soon and wanted to witness firsthand the missionary activities in Ghana before going there, since this was one of the main focuses of the European church at that time. And Celine came along because all other people who had initially planned to go on that trip together dropped out and she didn’t want Nelly to go on this trip alone. Needless to say that this wasn’t a long-handed thoroughly planned trip, and in addition to that all kinds of obstacles turned up and we did not think that we would make it, but somehow all these problems were solved and we were able to go. When we arrived in Accra, the capitol of Ghana, we were immediately overwhelmed by the heat and humidity there and of course the massive amounts of people. It was literally as if we were entering a different world. Even from our way from the airplane to the exit there were constantly people coming up to us trying to help us carry our luggage or help us go through customs in exchange for some money. At last we were very happy to finally see brother Jae-Han and Nicholas who had come to the airport to pick us up. As soon as we arrived at the church house in Accra we were able to meet the other brothers and sisters there. There were altogether 6 people working at the church house in Accra at that time. One missionary brother from Korea, one missionary brother from Germany, 2 Ghanaian brothers and 2 ghanaian sisters. And a few days later a young br
