<2008.11> I Know God Will Guide Me

Abeysinghearachchige Kapila Jayasiri | Sri Lanka     My name is Kapila. I'm 32 years old, and I'm married. My son is now three years old. I was born to a Buddhist family in Sri Lanka. My father was a veterinarian, and he passed away in 2003. My mother lives in Sri Lanka, and she is 61 years old. My only elder brother works for an American publishing company. Firstly I would like to give a brief introduction about my country. Sri Lanka is an island which is about 65,610 square kilometers. It is surrounded by the Indian ocean. The capital city is Srijayewardenepura. The official languages are Sinhalese and Tamil. 70% of population is Buddhists, 15% is Hindu, 8% is Christians, and 7% is Muslims. The mountains and the southwestern part are known as "wet zone." They receive ample amount of rainfall. Northern, eastern, and southeastern part of the country is the "dry zone." There are beautiful waterfalls, varieties of flowers, and also tropical evergreen forests. Sri Lanka became a plantation economy in the past centuries. Our black tea named as "Ceylon tea" is famous worldwide. On or around April 13th Sinhala and Tamil people celebrate "Sinhala and Tamil new year" festival. Muslims have there Ramadan. There are grades 1 to 13 in the education system, and at grade 13, we have to take G.C.E advanced level examination. If you pass, you can enter the university, but just about 5% of the students pass the exam. According to their education level one can find a job.We have 2500 year's recorded history. People's lives are formed with strong relationships. Villages are based on temples. The capital city seems westernized, but away from the capital we can find natural environments. My father came to work in highlands of the central part of the country. So we bought a house and settled down with him. My father was my hero and still he is, because he is a person who had lots of talents. He taught me everything in general that helped me to live my life. I entered a leading Christian school. I enjoyed my school time and it was the time I learned most things in my life. I didn't focus only on the academics, but I tried to learn and experience other things. At school I was a bright student. I took part in several activities like scouting, clubs and societies, and also sports. When I stayed at home, I always tried to help my mother. I remember one day when I went with the scouting group for the job week. At that time I was 13 . I was the leader of my group. For work we went to different villages. That day we went to a vegetable farm. I and my friends worked there and had meals with the people at the farm. It was really wonderful.
