- News from a European Fellowship Meeting

Musical Evening at the Construction SiteShortly before the European general meeting, which was held from Friday the 21st to Sunday the 23rd of March in Lichtenfels near Bamberg, a brother sent out an email to all the musicians in Europe who had entered their details on an address-list at the last German Bible Conference. At that conference, we realized how fortunate we are to have so many musicians in the European Moim - up to 20 people were registered on the list - and so, we decided to assume responsibility for the musical program at prospective meetings and also organize concerts in the meantime to provide an opportunity for our brothers and sisters to invite friends and family members who are not saved. We walked the talk and I will briefly give an account of how we carried out our first concert on the 23rd of December 2007 at the Mission Centre we lovingly refer to as "KWS" since it is placed in the Kaiserswerther Street in Dusseldorf. The building was and still is in the process of renovation, so we titled the concert "Musical Evening at the Construction Site" and a week before the concert, several brothers and sisters united their hearts and gathered together to clean and restore the biggest room on the first floor in which we set up 60 chairs. In the end, the audience was larger than expected so that some of them had to stand for two and a half hours. Among those who came, there were more than 10 guests, who had never had any contact with our fellowship before. Most of them were Germans, but there were also Korean guests, one Mexican and one Columbian. Seven brothers and sisters (3 pianists, 2 violinists, 2 singers) from the German Moim performed a diverse and enjoyable program consisting of pieces by Bach, Mozart, Schubert, Beethoven, Puccini, Rossini, Chopin, Faure, Monti, Sarasate, Piazzolla and a traditional Korean folksong. I personally was very grateful to see that our music had the power to please our brothers and sisters and that this concert really served the purpose of this building by presenting them with an attractive opportunity to bring along people they wanted to evangelize. However, I have to admit that something made me feel a bit awkward. Somehow I had mixed feelings about playing in front of the brothers and sisters as a "professional musician."Before the concert, I was spending most of my time practicing by myself and rehearsing with school colleagues. I was tangled up in a busy schedule performing out in the world and was more or less successful at it. But now these two worlds met, the "professional" music and the moim, and I felt ashamed of the times that I did not go to church because of my worldly schedule and now to come on stage in front of the brothers and sisters. Anyhow, the audience thankfully did not notice such irrelevant thoughts of mine and many expressed their hope for more concerts in the future.
Becoming One Through the Blood of JesusSo now, returning to the point from where I started this report, we were asked to arrange an evening with music for the general meeting and to bring any kind of music that we could play individually as well as together and that had some kind of relation to the Bible or a personal experience. This time, we were six professional musicians (2 singers, 2
