As we sing hymns, it is very important for us to think about the purpose of the hymns and the kind of hymns that we choose to sing. For example,
Last night I lay a sleeping, There came a dream so fair,I stood in old Jerusalem beside the temple there. (New Hymn 654)
These hymns tell of the crucifixion of Jesus on the cross in Old Jerusalem and also of the great blessings, which we are looking forward to in New Jerusalem, just as recorded in the Bible. When I listen to this kind of hymn, even though I do not know who wrote it, I feel that it is truly written as it is in the Bible and it is very impressive.

O the soul thrilling rapture when I view His blessed faceAnd the lustre of His kindly beaming eye;How my full heart will praise Him for the mercy, love and graceThat prepare for me a mansion in the sky.
O the dear ones in glory, how they beckon me to come,And our parting at the river I recall; To the sweet vales of Eden they will sing my welcome homeBut I long to meet my Saviour first of all.
Thru the gates to the city, in a robe of spotless white,He will lead me where no tears will ever fall;In the glad song of ages I shall mingle with delightBut I long to meet my Saviour first of all.
(Refrain)I shall know Him, I shall know Him,And redeemed by His side I shall stand,I shall know Him, I shall know HimBy the print of the nails in His hand. (Hymn 231)
Isn't this hymn wonderful? There are many hymns that vividly show us the Words of the Bible, for example, "And the dead in Christ will rise first
