The dimensions of the Most Holy place in the tabernacle are not specified in the Bible. As a result, many sources have jumped to the conclusion that the tabernacle and its divisions were the same as the temple in that the width was 10 cubits and the length was also 10 cubits. Yet to this date there is no reference in the Bible to support this claim. The location of the Most Holy place is also not specified in detail but is referred to as the most westward area of the tabernacle.
It is separated from the Holy Place by a veil which is woven with “blue, purple, and scarlet thread, and fine woven linen” along with “an artistic design of cherubim”. It is to be hung on four pillars of acacia wood overlaid with gold, the hooks holding it will be of gold with four sockets of silver. The veil was to act as a divider between the holy place and the Most Holy place because if anyone, even Aaron, were to enter at just any time he or she will die. (see Leviticus 6:12)
Objects in the Holy of Holies
1. Ark of the Testimony (Ark of the Covenant):The Ark of the testimony was placed in the tabernacle, behind the veil, which divided the holy place and the Most Holy. It is made of acacia wood overlain with pure gold, inside and out, with a molding all around. Its dimensions are 2.5 cubits in length, 1.5 cubits in width and 1.5 cubits in height. On each of the four sides is a ring of gold where poles of acacia wood, also overlain with gold, are placed inside the rings so it can be carried.
The ark of the Testimony is commonly referred to along with the mercy seat, which sits upon the ark of the Testimony. Although a distinction is made between the two objects they are referred to as one throughout the Old Testame
