The Seven Feasts ⅣThe Seven Feasts in Leviticus 2Leviticus 23:9-223) The Feast of the Firstfruits - the Day on which a Sheaf of the Firstfruits Was Offered UpAnd the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, When you come into the land that I give you and reap its harvest, you shall bring the sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest to the priest, and he shall wave the sheaf before the Lord, so that you may be accepted. On the day after the Sabbath the priest shall wave it. And on the day when you wave the sheaf, you shall offer a male lamb a year old without blemish as a burnt offering to the Lord. And the grain offering with it shall be two tenths of an ephah of fine flour mixed with oil, a food offering to the Lord with a pleasing aroma, and the drink offering with it shall be of wine, a fourth of a hin. And you shall eat neither bread nor grain parched or fresh until this same day, until you have brought the offering of your God: it is a statute forever throughout your generations in all your dwellings.” Leviticus 23:9-14The day that is referred to as the Feast of the Firstfruits is the day on which a sheaf from the first harvest that was reaped after the Israelites entered Canaan and farmed the land was taken to the priest. The sheaf would then be waved before the Lord as a wave offering. This was to be carried out on the day after the Sabbath. God said that when the sheaf was waved before the Lord, a male lamb a year old without blemish was also to be offered to the Lord, along with a grain offering and a drink offering (an offering of wine). God also warned them not to eat anything before they offered the sheaf of the firstfruits in this way.The Bible tells us that Jesus rose from the grave the day after the Sabbath. The Israelites were told that on the day of the Passover they were told to offer up a male a year old taken from the sheep or the goats, and on the day of the Feast of the Firstfruits they were to offer a male lamb a year old. As the lamb without sin, Jesus covered himself in our sins and died, like the goat, in the image of a sinner. For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:21When Jesus rose from the dead, however, having completely buried our sins, he appeared in his glory. No sacrificial goat was offered up at the Feast of the Firstfruits. In order to rectify Adam’s disobedience, God raised up Jesus, who was completely righteous and obeyed to the full. Compared to the sacrifices offered up during the other feasts, the number (one animal) and type of animal sacrificed at the time of the Passover and the Feast of the Firstfruits which signify Christ’s death and resurrection were relatively simple. This is because the Lord carried out this great work alone. We need to consider that the sheaf taken to the priest at the time of the Feast of the Firstfruits was barley, since barley was the first crop harvested in the agricultural year. The Feast of the Firstfruits virtually overlapped with, or took place immediately after the Feast of the Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread.4) The Feast of Weeks / PentecostYou shall count seven full weeks from the day after the Sabbath, from the day that you brought the sheaf of the wave offering. You shall count fifty days to the day after the seventh Sabbath. Then you shall present a grain offering of new grain to the Lord. You shall bring from your dwelling places two loaves of bread to be waved, made of two tenths of an ephah. They shall be of fine flour, and they shall be baked with leaven, as firstfruits to the Lord. And you shall present with the bread seven lambs a year old without blemish, and one bull from the herd and two rams. They shall be a burnt offering to the Lord,
